Jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch 1.1.3 without a computer: iJailbreak Mobile
By Danny Mendez
Remember the days when we didn’t need computers to jailbreak our mobile, Apple devices? Well, we’re back to those days (after going back to the old ways for a short while).
You may have already heard about iJailbreak for 1.1.3, the auto-jailbreak solution for Mac users, but 13-year-old-coders AriX and Ben have taken their creation to the next level. iJailbreak Mobile is available for free through Installer.app and requires a jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 device. And for you iPhone hackers: it won’t mess with any iPhone activations or or unlocks.
In order to install iJailbreak Mobile, you’ll need to add the source “iJailbreak.com/repo.plist” under “Sources” in Installer.app. Navigate to the category, “iJailbreak Mobile”, which will become available after you add the new source. Choose the appropriate version for your device. You’ll need a decent Internet connection to finish the approximate 45 minute download and install process. Once the installation completes, the device should try to reboot. Manually reboot the device (hold the power and home button until it shuts down) if it gets stuck trying to reboot after the install.
If you are considering this method of upgrading to 1.1.3, proceed with caution. The free software provided by iPhone and iPod Touch hackers are put together with the best intentions, but any number of problems can occur if used. This shouldn’t do any permanent damage to your device, but don’t say we didn’t warn you. Finally, there’s no telling how Apple’s official third-party programs, which may hit as early as February, will react when mixed with a jailbroken device.
A few other things available under the iJailbreak Mobile category in Installer.app:
- Remove 1.1.3 Jailbreak Data: Recommended for those who upgraded from 1.1.1.
- iPod Touch Software Upgrade: Adds the iPhone apps to the iPod Touch.
- Fix Mail Passwords: Fixes password memory issue in Mail.app.
