Updated: iJailbreak: easy 1.1.3 jailbreak for iPhone and iPod Touch on Mac
By Danny Mendez
Remember the good ol’ days when jailbreaking your mobile Apple device didn’t require a computer? Nowadays we have to resort to such old-school methods, but at least people like AriX and Ben are making it easy… for Mac users. The duo is "pleased to announce" iJailbreak for 1.1.3.
Currently at version 0.4.1, iJailbreak is the easiest, true auto-jailbreak for Mac OS X. It’s also famous because the first versions were put together by a 13 year old known as AriX. Helping him with the newest releases of the program, Ben, "co-13-year-old developer", is the same age.
The new release requires Leopard, but Tiger will also do the trick if you’re running an Intel machine. They’re currently working to add PPC support. You’ll need a jailbroken 1.1.1. or 1.1.2 device in order for iJailbreak to work. If you haven’t put your device through a jailbreak yet or if you don’t know how, check out our lengthy iPhone and iPod Touch hacking FAQ. There’s also AppSnapp, an easy, quick, computer-less jailbreak method, but this requires firmware 1.1.1.
Check out iJailbreak’s Google Code page to download the latest release. If you have a problem using passwords in Mail.app (which may be the case with the regular 1.1.3 firmware too), go to "Sources" in Installer.app. Add "sleepers.net/iphonerepo" which will give you access to the Mail.app fix under the category labeled "Tweaks (1.1.3)". Install that, and the problem should be fixed.
Update: An easier, computer-less method has been released by the same coders.
