Apple may introduce iPhone 2 with 3G capabilities

February 9, 2008

Apple may introduce iPhone 2 with 3G capabilities All those early iPhone adopters got a little angry last year when Apple dropped the price of the device by $200 just two months after introducing it.  Adopters of the iPhone this year may get just as angry.  Apple may be introducing the iPhone 2 later this year.  It will have enhanced features and perhaps a design revision as well.

If you are planning to get an iPhone, my suggestion is to wait.  According to Forbes, the iPhone 2 is just around the bend.  CEO of AT&T, Randall Stephenson accidentally leaked information that his company was working with Apple to create a 3G compatible iPhone.  The 3G iPhone would be compatible with AT&T’s high-speed “third generation” network.

AT&T’s current EDGE network gets speeds of about 75kbps (kilobits per second) to 150kbps.  It’s new HSDPA network gets speeds of up to one million bits per second.

It will still be a while before there is actually a 3G capable iPhone on the market but make no mistake, it will be out this year.  AT&T is building it’s high speed wireless networks as fast as the towers can go up.  The service is being expanded to 80 additional cities by the end of this year which will cover roughly 350 markets.

The 3G iPhone is even more solidified by the fact that Broadcom began showing samples of a compatible 3G communications chip.  It’s one of the most power efficient chips that the company has shown, to date.  There’s also the storage increase to 16GB on the iPhone, allowing for additional storage of movies and music.  Which could be downloaded using a high-speed 3G connection.

Some might say it’s too late but in the land of Jobs, it’s never too late as Apple’s fans are mere sheep.  And the iPhone with 3G will be like a new era for them, as if no other phone had it before.

    What a doofus you are.
    1. Big difference to just drop the price after two months with no significant upgrade and a significant hardware upgrade.
    2. The iPhone, thusfar, offers the most pleasant cell phone experience and no other cell phone comes even close to the web browsing experience.
    3. Making a blanket statement that Apple fans are ‘mere sheep’ shows how ignorant you are. I guess I could make the blanket statement that all blog writers are as ignorant as you, but I’m a little more intelligent than that.

  2. Jonathan:

Umberto, as for number 3, if you were then you wouldn’t have said anything at all. Apple fans would treat a 3G iPhone as if it were the FIRST phone to do that.

Apple may be the first to do a few things but not most of them, other companies just can’t make the package as nice.

  3. bigd:

So are you saying that Apple shouldnt revise and update their product lines, or just once every 6-7 years like say a microsoft os.

  4. harold:

hi, i am from the Netherlands. Still no Iphones abailable in the Netherlands. Hopefully this month. Do you know if the 3G will be earlier in production in the US than in Europe. Normally Europe have quicker networks. Like our blackberries are already 3G.

  5. UpYours:

    Sheep!? Up yours douchebag.

  6. Anthony Vattathil:

Nice, “mere sheep”. That comment gave me a good picture of how clueless you are as you type your simple comments on your over priced PC. I am not a self-proclaimed elitist as you TRY to come off as in your article. Do some research on why educated computer users pay for Apple products. I’ll make it simple for you and give you some clues. OSX, hmmm… lets see; a solid BSD kernel running a stable OS written for quality hardware. A superior user interface vs. the same old junk republished with glass effects (that hardly works). The reason why every Microsoft release is a so call re-write is because even their so call “sheep users” know that it’s junk. As you read this, think to your self what do you really know about operating systems or computing? Have you ever written a legit line of code in your existence? Your high priced education (which I doubt you have) taught you nothing more than how to ‘click’ on START. Do us all a favor and stop commenting on things you know nothing about. I feel like I just wasted 5 minutes typing this on my “OPENSOLARIS box”. I am sure you will get a better perspective from mac users.

Try something original next time to get blog hits.

  8. MacBoy:

“mere sheep” is actually an interested metaphor, which I semi-agree, but not in the manner he is using it. By “mere sheep”, I imagine he is trying to say that we do whatever Apple wills of us, a herd so to speak. Well, I agree with that because, well, we do. Not because we are ignorant though. We do because Apple knows what they are doing, and if they do something, it’s probably for a good reason. Being a Mac user myself, and an C++/Objective-C programmer, I trust Apple almost fully with everything I did. This would never happen on a Window machine, because, I just don’t trust the OS. So, I will agree that I am a “mere sheep”, because I trust Apple. Not because I’m a fan boy, but because I know it will work, with no questions asked.

Mac-users claim to be so “educated.” I am using Windows Vista at this very moment. I am the only one so far on this site to use correct grammar.

Josh: Not so; you missed two commas.

  14. AG:

No new iPhone on the 9th…

  15. John:

Overpriced pc? A-ha. Mac is the most overpriced OS out there, and for not much more, if any, added benefit. Its merely a reinvention of the mouse trap, but for much more money.

The only reason PC is exploited more often than Mac is because its utilized by the vast majority of computer users. If Mac had the same user base as PC, there’d be just as many viruses.

If all of you really think your so hard core, try using an OS with the power of PC and Mac, yet with a price tag of zero dollars. Man up and try using a Unix derived OS.

  16. wow:

i found this very imformative. im getting my new iPhone on july 11 right when it comes out!

  17. idiots...:

To the douche who said, “man up and try a unix derived OS:” Mac OSX Leopard is fully UNIX compliant.

  18. you guys:

Why does everyone always fight about which OS is better. Mac v.s. PC vs Linux and stuff. Can’t we all just get along? Every OS has its pros and cons but we just have to live with it.

Really good work about this website was done. Keep trying more – thanks!
