Will Adobe Flash and iPhone pair up? It looks that way.
By Opal Tribble
Adobe Flash has been one of the most requested features for the iPhone, and it looks like it is finally making its way to the iPhone.
Gear Live has stirred up excited iPhone users by reporting that we should be seeing this featuring very soon.
Many iPhone users are hoping this is true. Those who want this feature are unable to access Flash on websites. Installing the Adobe plug-in wouldn’t help because the iPhone hasn’t supported this feature. Regarding Flash enables websites, Apple was successfully able to maneuver around this requirement with YouTube by converting YouTube content into h.264. This supports the iPhone natively.
Walt Mossberg (co-produces All Things Digital) first revealed in July 2007 that Flash would eventually work its way to the iPhone.
Question: “If the iPhone’s Web browser is so good, why can’t it play video on Web sites I visit?”
“At launch, the iPhone version of the Safari browser is missing some plug-ins needed for playing common types of Web videos. The most important of these is the plug-in for Adobe’s Flash technology. Apple says it plans to add that plug-in through an early software update, which I am guessing will occur within the next couple of months.”
Cynics point out that some peoples usability was compromised on a computer and question if this is even necessary on the iPhone. Others state that visiting Flash enabled websites will gobble up the iPhone battery life. For those who don’t want the feature hopefully they’ll have an option that allows people to disable Flash.
iPhone, Adobe Flash, Apple, Remote Disc, multi-touch trackpad
