3G capable iPhone 2 launching mid-year

By Jonathan Schlaffer

3G capable iPhone 2 launching mid-year Ever since MacWorld, Apple fans have been waiting for a 3G iPhone and it may be closer than you think.  Any revision to the iPhone will no doubt be welcome and hopefully the design will be updated as well.

Production on the current EDGE iPhone models is being reduced and Apple will begin clearing inventory.  How it will do so is not known so enter some speculation.

One way most companies clear inventory is to reduce prices.  Apple has already reduced the price on iPhones but when the new models are near; more price cuts may be in order.

According to CNN Money, German based Infineon technologies will be providing the 3G chips to Apple for use in the iPhone.  This may be the boost that Apple needs to really grab the media’s attention.

MacWorld was disappointing and only after it was well done and over with did the company release products worth talking about.  It just released new MacBooks and MacBook Pros though without design revisions.

A 3G capable iPhone can only be a good thing for the company.  Now, if only it can get out of the bad habit of taking the store offline for every little product update.

    1. Grrr:

Why not have a time line, I hate all the secret stuff. Most people will wait so why not let them know how long it will be.

    2. Because:

Companies don’t promise anything unless they’re sure of a release date. It’ll look bad if they don’t hit a promised date – and most if not all development cycles for these things slip.

    3. rob:

because if people know when the new one is coming then they wont want to buy the old one today. If you knew that in 3 months a new model of the car you were looking to buy was coming out would you buy this one new today? when in 3 months it will be out of date…
