iPhone, iPod Touch to get new applications through iTunes Store
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Apple is all set to release the SDK (Software Development Kit) for the iPhone which will enable many more third party applications. The SDK includes key components that enable the iPhone to function; which is necessary for application development. Since the iPhone and iPod Touch are similar, the SDK should work for both.
Until now, Apple has kept all things regarding the iPhone a closely guarded and closed system. The only way to install new applications was to jailbreak or hack the devices and use Installer.app. Things will get much easier once the SDK is released later this week.
Freep expects the first thing to happen will be to increase compatibility of the Mail application with corporate mail systems; making it more of a competitor to the BlackBerry. Other things such as Games, Book Readers and GPS applications will be along in due time.
What I would like is an Internet streaming radio application; like the radio service in the desktop version of iTunes. Once an application is developed, it will likely be served up via the iTunes Store.
Price will probably depend on the application but let’s hope that there are at least some free applications to choose from. Otherwise, I’m happy with my iPod Touch the way it is.

Hi, Re: “What I would like is an Internet streaming radio application”. I actually came across a very good and clear iPhone/iTouch streaming radio web site called:
FlyTunes
I love it. Have a good day.

If they charge for the apps, more people will jailbreak. They have to keep up with the jailbreak community. Otherwise, why not jailbreak and get them all for free!?

You guys are great.
I’m going to check FlyTunes out now.
I’ve been looking for a radio application myself for a while now with no luck until now.
If FlyTunes is free, I’ll add it to http://www.thedailyfreebies.com.
Thanks again all.
