iPhone firmware 2.0 already jailbroken
By Jonathan Schlaffer
If you’re looking forward to the release of the iPhone/iPod Touch software update in June, great. Those that have “jailbroken” their iPhone may not be so much. While some would like to have those features, every update from Apple breaks most “jailbroken” iPhones but not this time around.
Modifymyifone reports that the 2.0 firmware has already been jailbroken by the iPhone Dev Team. Since it is a new hack it is currently only working for iPhones that have hacked activation; meaning not yet working on AT&T iPhones. Don’t worry, though, this is just the first step towards that goal.
It’s almost certain that by the time the 2.0 update ships; they will have jailbroken it for use on AT&T activated units.
If Apple had released the App Store and newer applications before now, maybe we wouldn’t be so eager to jailbreak our devices. But, the company had to take it’s sweet time breaking out the SDK and in my opinion took far too long to do so.
On a side note, iPod Touch users must purchase the 2.0 update for full functionality but the basic firmware update will be free. If you plan on making use of third party apps or using the App Store in a meaningful way on your iPod Touch, you’ll have to pay for the update. If not, then you won’t have to buy it.
