How to dual boot your iPhone with multiple firmware versions
By Jonathan Schlaffer
In the same way that it’s possible to dual boot Windows XP/Vista and Mac OSX on a Mac or Linux and Windows on a PC; it’s now possible to do something similar on an iPhone. It’s now possible to boot multiple versions of the iPhone firmware on the same device.
It’s rather technical and involves some command line work but for those that feel they are up to the task, feel free to give it a go.
You will have to set up two partitions on the iPhone, one for the old firmware and one for the more recent firmware. The author of the tutorial is quick to caution that it may be possible to damage your device. A restore should fix any problems but that’s not necessarily a guarantee.
Once you’ve confirmed that both versions of the operating system function, “you can easily switch between them by changing your root-device.”
You’ll learn all you need to know to do this by reading the tutorial at the link above. It looks pretty risky to me but that won’t stop those of you that are pioneers.
But this pioneer is going to leave it be, I like my device just the way it is.
