Apple rejects many applications for iPhone developer program

March 15, 2008

Apple rejects most applications for iPhone developer program The iPhone SDK has been released and downloaded 100,000 times, response from developers was tremendous.  That response has now turned from jubilation to anger; Apple has rejected most of the applications it received for the iPhone Developer’s Program.

When things finally settled down it turned out that those who had downloaded the SDK and were willing to pay the $99 to $299 “entry” fee to become an iPhone developer found a rejection letter from Apple.

Fortune has posted the letter for all to read,

“Dear Registered iPhone Developer, Thank you for expressing interest in the iPhone Developer Program. We have received your enrollment request. As this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to a limited number of developers and we plan to expand during the beta period. We will contact you again regarding your enrollment status at the appropriate time. Thank you for applying.”

However, Apple contends that not everyone is getting rejection letters.  Of course not; the company has already allowed it’s favorite/preferred partners into the program.

Anyone and everyone can download the SDK and begin developing applications for the iPhone but there is no guarantee that the application(s) will be accepted when June rolls around and the 2.0 firmware is released.  Developers outside of the US need not apply at this time.

Those wishing to develop apps at this time must do so on the iPhone or iPod Touch software and cannot test the accelerometer or touch screen features which Fortune notes is “key for game developers.”

The sad thing is, this news isn’t one bit surprising.
