iJailbreak 0.6 released for 1.1.4 iPhone and iPod Touch firmware
By Danny Mendez
AriX and Ben, the two teenage hackers behind iJailbreak, released version 0.6 of their software, an extremely useful 1.1.4 iPhone and iPod Touch jailbreak app for OSX.
iJailbreak made its debut in the earlier stages of the iPhone/iPod Touch firmware. What made the software incredible was not just that it worked but it was one of the first all-in-one programs to achieve an easy jailbreak — and it was assembled by a 13 year-old! For the newest versions of iJailbreak, Ben, now a co-developer, has joined the team.
Their latest work jailbreaks 1.1.4 iPhone and iPod Touch units, and it also freely enables the $20 iPhone apps for the iPod Touch. Apple’s a jerk for trying to make early adopters pay for those apps, but business is business. The program also makes file-system manipulation easier by adding com.apple.afc2 support.
Normally, iJailbreak is available at the team’s Google code page, but as of the writing of this post, the site’s giving the young, coding duo trouble. Normally, they’re not one to leave fans high and dry, and this is no exception. They’ve provided an alternate download link at the iJailbreak site.
Since its release on Saturday, a bug has emerged causing "Spamming AT" errors on iPod Touch units. If that’s a problem for your device, AriX and Ben recommend the NVRAM Fixer in order to fix the problem.
Please remember that although we generally praise jailbreak software and almost anything hacked, "hacking" — if it can even be called that anymore — your device will likely void your warranty. As a result, if you need to return your device to Apple, make sure to restore it to Apple’s original firmware. iJailbreak only messes with the software on the device, so any problems should be fixable by doing a simple software restore — but remember, use at your own risk!
