Snapture: working the iPhone camera better than Apple
By Danny Mendez
Snapture is a program designed to replace the iPhone’s camera application, which has been criticized for being too simple. When it comes to Apple, simplicity is both a blessing and a curse, and it seems Apple assumes we all love simplicity in our gadgets.
Why is simplicity a problem? Apple purposefully cripples its products in order to make them more "stable" and simple. While this works for some Apple fans, many of us love Apple’s high-tech gear but require a more advanced product.
Apple’s app for taking pictures with the iPhone is just way too straightforward, so Snapture is the answer to this problem, adding tons of features to the mix including: digital zoom, easy self-photos, burst mode, multiple image sizes, color modes, toggle auto-rotation, silent mode, and a leveler which "provides a visual aid for taking photos at different angles."
This isn’t the first product seeking to add features to Apple’s camera-phone. Wired points out that CameraPro is a similar app that has been available for some time, but it’ll set you back $20.
Both Snapture and CameraPro require a jailbroken unit. Though Snapture is free, proceed with caution as installing anything not approved by Apple could cause major damage (typically fixable through a firmware restore).

I tried both. Snapture works great on my 1.1.4 iPhone and can’t beat the price! CameraPro is nice too, but a bit of a rip for $20, IMO.

Maybe Snapture could be offered via the App Store when it is released later this year?
