3G iPhone rumors going strong: better headphone jack, same screen, release date?

We’re getting very close to another Apple product release: the 3G (second-generation) iPhone, and — as usual — rumors are flooding the web about Apple’s mysterious, new device. Let’s take a look at what the net’s saying about the new mobile, which should be announced in early June.
Well, that’s what analysts are saying, says PC World. Word on the street is the 3G iPhone will at least get a mention during Steve Jobs’ keynote speech at the WWDC. The likely date for date for the speech is June 9, but that’s not to say a mention means a release. Even if Apple were to announce the product — diving deep into every feature of the phone — the company often separates announcement and release dates.
On the other side of the web, Engadget has a trusted source who has apparently seen the new Apple mobile, which should keep the general shape and size of the old iPhone. This also means it’s going to share the same screen size and resolution — though, to be honest, there’s not much room for it to improve right now. The new iPhone should also feature true GPS and the ability to use 3G networks (hence the "3G" everyone’s raving about).
Aesthetically, the phone will ditch the recessed headphone jack and its shiny, silver case. The new headphone jack should no longer present a problem for users with 3rd party headphone jacks, and the new case should be a shiny black similar to the 3rd party replacement case above — courtesy of the Cellular Nationwide Network.
As for the old iPhone, Apple’s not giving up on it just yet. Those fortune telling analysts from a few paragraphs ago say the old iPhone may get a makeover and a price drop — and maybe some new firmware.
