Its official iPhone users will have Wi-Fi access at 17,000 hotspots across the USA. You’ll find an update when you log onto the AT&T iPhone website. Where is the information? You can find it located under the iPhone plans section.
“Access to AT&T’s more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, including Starbucks all for use in the US.”
*Wi-Fi available at U.S. company operated Starbucks locations equipped with a hotspot.
Recently, AT&T had turned on Wi-Fi access but cut it off only days after going live. AT&T has been silent about the reported hotspots which led some to speculate that AT&T might have been testing out select WI-Fi hotspots and would be officially releasing it at a later date. The 17,000 hotspots will be included in the regular iPhone tariffs. The information listed on their website strongly suggests that access to the hotspots will be coming soon.
The AT&T system is based on the iPhone User Agent; A few readers on a variety of forums have claimed that they were able surf the internet Wi-Fi hotspots for free from their laptops by using the iPhone User Agent they somehow tricked it which enabled gave them access to the internet. That’s definitely not something AT&T wants to happen.
Apple iPhone is an internet enabled multi media mobile phone. AT&T, formerly Cingular Wireless, has exclusive US distribution rights to the iPhone for five years. Also, Apple is barred for that time from developing a version of the iPhone for CDMA wireless networks.
