iPhone 2.0 beta adds geotagging; Will we see GPS with the new iPhone?
By Opal Tribble
iPhone v2.0 was released to a select group of enterprise parters. What the beta users discovered got many of people buzzing about what this might mean for future versions of the iPhone. Will we see geotagging in iPhone 2.0? Perhaps we’ll see the rumored GPS?
In the newest release, iPhone 2.0 beta, there is a feature titled “Location services” this feature a GPS-based Google Mapping, also included is geo-tagging for the iPhones camera application.

Geotagging, sometimes referred to as geocoding, is the process by which the user is able to add geographical identification metadata to variety of media files such as websites. The user can come back to it later and search for the information based on its location.
Another feature that appears to have been added to iPhone 2.0 beta can be found under the iPhones general preference pane. A toggle has been added that will allow users to enable/disable Location Services on a system-wide basis.
Geotagging is not new technology there are phones that already carry this feature such as the Nokia N95 or some of your Windows Mobile phones. Anyone that has followed Apple knows they aren’t always the first when it comes to new technology. Steve Jobs has said that Apple takes current technology and improves it. How will Apple improve on geotagging and GPS; hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long.
