Apple opens iPhone Apps store Monday at WWDC

There are two types of iPhone users — the ones that couldn’t wait for 3rd party application functionality and jailbrake their iPhones, and those that have waited like good little Apple-ites for Steve Jobs to open the iPhone Apps store that has been in the works for quite a while now. Word has it that on Monday at the World Wide Developer’s Conference, Steve Jobs will open the iPhone Apps store to the public after the long wait.
According to CNET, Apple has quite the little show planned for WWDC 2008. Developers have been submitting applications designed on the SDK developer’s package since Steve announced the Apps store, and those creations will be opened to the public come Monday.
Analysts also anticipate that the next generation iPhone will be unveiled and available come Monday; with that in mind, the Apps store will be available with a software upgrade to both devices. In other words, you don’t have to buy the new iPhone to get access to the Apps store.
Additionally, the new iPhone is said to have legitimate GPS integrated, as opposed to the faux tower positioning application many iPhone owners have adopted by jailbraking their iPhones. That on top of 3G functionality everyone is buzzing about should make for a really impressive iPhone release.
Keep in mind that Steve Jobs might very well make the Apps store immediately available to purchasers of the new updated iPhone, and withhold the software upgrade for a short period of time to add more value to adopting the new iPhone. Though 3G and GPS are both attractive features, any separation between the old and new devices will no doubt add more value to the new product release.
