iPhone Developers: App Store launch deadline announced

July 2, 2008

iPhone Developers: App Store launch deadline announcedRemember the new iPhone App Store? It’s supposed to launch this month alongside the iPhone 3G. Why did I just you remind you about that? Because Apple just announced the deadline for apps to make it into the store on launch day.

Apple marked July 7, 2008 on its calendar as the deadline for the developers to submit applications to be sold on launch day, which happens to be July 11, 2008, says MacRumors.

Developers may continue to submit applications after the deadline, but any late submissions aren’t guaranteed to make it. Such apps will eventually make it into the store, though, they won’t be there on the App Store’s first day of operation.

Why does it matter if your app makes it by launch day? You can bet there’ll be tons of traffic since everyone wants to personally check out the new apps, so we’re sure it’ll be a day of many — and we stress the word "many" — sales. So if you’re a developer, quit putting together that program for work, and start debugging, testing, coding, and whatever else it is that developers do.

If you’d like to check out the App Store in action, the curious can see it at work in Apple’s iPhone 3G video demonstration. And if you’re interested in becoming an iPhone developer, check out the iPhone Developer Program at Apple’s site.
