Display replacements for iPhone finally emerge, 1st gen only though
By Justin Montgomery
Milliamp LTD., operating through the website ipodjuice.com, has announced a new service aimed at next-day replacement of 1st generation iPhone screens. The service complements a slew of other support solutions designed around the iPhone. From battery replacements, outer casing scratches, and now screen replacements, the company is aiming to become a one-stop-shop for iPhone repair and support.
According to TransWorldNews, the screens differ on the iPhone and the next-generation 3G model in that the first generation had a combined screen and digitizer as one component. The 3G version now has separate screen and digitizer components, making it easier to replace just the screen. On the older models, when the screen is damaged, the digitizer has to be replaced as well making it much more costlier and harder to accomplish. “While a new iPhone screen is more costly than an average iPod screen replacement, many of people decide that the repair cost is justified.”, said Mr. Anthony Magnabosco, the founder of ipodjuice.com. “We are surprised by the number of emails and phone calls we receive from people that have damaged their iPhone LCD and want to have it repaired.” he added.
The company claims to have readily available stock on hand, and can replace the screen same-day and ship back to you the next business day. That’s all fine, but the simple fact that it takes so much time and money to replace a cell phone screen still gets me. Much like the battery issue, I find it hard to swallow that a phone has to be shipped off to have such simple things as a screen and battery replaced. I’ve replaced numerous screens on older devices quickly and cheaply, the same goes for batteries. I realize it might compromise the beauty of the device, but come on Apple. At least by simplifying the screen on the 3G model, it makes it a little cheaper, but it’s almost inevitable that a screen will break at some point in its life. Personally, I’ve already cracked the screen on my first-gen model, and simply haven’t done anything because it’s such a hassle.
