You can stream President-elect Obama’s inauguration on your iPhone thanks to Ustream
If you are stuck at work or traveling or otherwise unable to watch the inauguration when it happens on January 20th 2009 at 11:30 AM EST, if you have an iPhone you are in luck. Streaming Web video service Ustream will be streaming it live to your iPhone, iPhone 3G or iPod Touch as it happens. You won’t miss this historic moment in American history.
If you haven’t used Ustream before, you are in for a treat. Much like TalkShoe does for podcasts, Ustream allows real time live chatting about the live video streams you are watching. This means that you can not only see the inauguration as it happens, you can discuss it with others who are watching it, letting the world know your thoughts and opinions and getting immediate feedback from your fellow stream viewers.
In order to get in on the action, you will need to request your log in for the live stream from Ustream before the event. You can find the new Ustream application in the iTunes Application Store. I highly recommend downloading it, installing it and getting your log in set up before the inauguration is near tomorrow.
I am certain that bandwidth usage for this event will put quite a challenge to Ustream’s servers and service, not to mention taxing the AT&T data service that iPhone users pay so much for, as well as straining the iPhone battery – not known for long life. It will be interesting to see how the preparations of the folks at Ustream, a popular social media service still in beta, help them handle the load. If you need more information about how to set up the stream, or if the application is not yet showing up in the iTunes Application Store for you, you can find out how to request a log in directly from Ustream on their blog.
