Now iPhone and iPod Touch become TVPhone

March 2, 2009

Now iPhone and iPod Touch become TVPhoneCBS Mobile has released its new TV.com app for iPhone and iPod touch users. This means that if you are in the right areas you will now be able to watch full episodes of selected CBS shows and other programs over Wi-Fi or 3G mobile networks on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Currently, TV.com dishes out selected CBS shows, which include CBS News and CBS Sports programs and episodes of Late Show with David Letterman, Star Trek: the Original Series, CSI, and The Young and the Restless.

The new TV.com app also fetches some nice picks from the CW, such as Smallville and 90210, and several shows from Showtime, such as The L Word and The Tudors, and a selection of CNET and GameSpot broadcasts.

The new TV.com app will not only fetch clips, interviews, and promos, but also bring full episodes of some popular TV shows, such as CSI: Miami. (Have you noticed that the colors on that show appear to have gone through a contrast filter sharpening the colors to the point of unreality. In real life visits to Miami the colors did not seem that vivid.)

At present the selection of the programs and shows for the new TV.com app is a tad limited, but CBS aims to add more programs and shows to the content library.

Some of the ideas are plain daft. For example, and we quote: ‘Shake to Shuffle feature that allows jiggling your iPhone with a randomly selected item.’

CBS aims to compete with the Viacom-backed Joost and Hulu, a joint effort between NBC and Fox. More importantly we are now in the big players’ game and the iPhone and the iPod Touch both become portable video sets.

You can also use your iPhone to access remote files and stream your music collection. I ran across an interesting article entitled “Drive a Hybrid Cloud” at DealDogs.net reviewing the ZumoDrive program which works on the iPhone. This is the article link here which has a description and video about the Hybrid Cloud storage provider.
