By Ronald O Carlson
When it comes to the world’s favorite talent show, iTunes offers a wealth of ways to enjoy it all again and again. Now Idol junkies can get their fix on while on the go. Just another of the more than 26,000 apps that now inhabit the Apple’s phenomenally successful App Store.
It’s 8 a.m. and you’re in the car on the way to work, and you’ve just gotta find out who made the cut last night on American Idol? There’s an app for that.
The iTunes App Store is now offering the American Idol Season 8 Exclusive, which is the official app for this season’s show featuring videos the top finalists.

What’s the average cost of an App Store app? $2.78. What category contains the most apps? Unsurprisingly, it’s games with 5,395 as of this writing.
OK, which month since Apple began accepting accepting submissions back in May of last year has seen the highest number of incoming apps? That would be last month—the shortest of the year—with 5,580, though March is already off to a roaring start.
Where to find all of this information and more? That would be 148Apps, a website dedicated to parsing the statistical minutia of Apple’s phenomenally successful software outlet for its equally high achieving iPhone.
Once you’ve plunked down the required $1.99, you will get a weekly stream of exclusive videos and highlights from the show. Thereupon, app buyers will be able to enjoy 77 videos by the time season ends, which works out to about 2.6¢ per video—chump change.
And, yes, American Idol Season 8 Exclusive buyers also get contestant bioes, info and the ability to predict who will get to stay and who will get voted off.
