iTunes App Store counting down to 1 billion downloads

The mothership’s industry leading software ecosystem for the iPhone and iPod touch continues to set and reset the bar for application output and sales, not to mention leave the company’s wannabe competitors in the dust. Help Cupertino and its legion of loyal developers celebrate by entering for the chance to win a bunch of cool Apple gear or massive $10,000 gift card.
With months still to go before the groundbreaking virtual retail space’s July 17 anniversary, Apple is already counting done to the App Store’s 1 billionth download and they are trying to push forward the happy day that milestone is reached by giving a bunch o’ tasty Apple flavored swag.
As of today [Ed—Friday, April 10], nearly one billion apps have been downloaded
around the globe. So we just want to say thanks—a billion. Download an app
and you’ll automatically get the chance to win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card,
an iPod touch, Time Capsule, and MacBook Pro. Just go to the iTunes Store,
browse the App Store, and download your best app yet.
That said, you can enter to win without purchase and, yes, you should read the Official Rules, though it’s worth noting that you only need to 13 years old to enter and, doubly interesting, is that this giveaway isn’t limited to residents of these United States. People 13 and over in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom can also enter, though Apple adds the words “if available” after the list which makes ya think just a little.
Last, but kind of least, Apple encourages you to visit their all time top 20 apps listing (iTunes), which I am not going to provide any spoilers for.
Thereupon, if I could be so lucky, I would love lay my hands on the $10,000 iTunes Gift. Perhaps you would like the iPod touch, hmm?
