Source indicates 4, 8, 16, 32 GB iPhones coming
What do you get when you combine rumors of a growing product line with broader connection standard support? Heck, why not toss in rumors of an end to AT&T’s US iPhone monopoly? The possibilities tempt and dazzle.
Engadget reports that the PCS Type Review Certification Board, the standards body responsible for certificating handsets for use by AT&T, among others, has approved 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB iPhones for sale and use in these United States of America.
Thereupon, fresh rumors out of Taiwan say the upcoming Jesus phone revision will see models that support EDGE, 3G and TD-SCDMA. Does this mean the return of an EDGE phone and, if yes, for which markets?
Add to this fresh ‘n’ frothy brew persistent rumors of an upcoming iPhone nano model, which could be carried by Verizon and we’ve got the fixin’s for some blockbuster announcements at next week’s Worldwide iPhone love fest and Developer Conference.
A bright forecast?
So, how does a 4GB iPhone “lite” for sale with a limited data plan sound? How about the same affordable product available to China’s teeming masses on the EDGE and/or TD-SCDMA networks? Both seemingly reasonable possibilities, except perhaps that Apple’s said it doesn’t want to make protocol and market specific (i.e. a Verizon only EDGE handset) product, and that China’s TD-SCDMA fragmented network is still perhaps not quite ready for prime time.
Further, Verizon’s CEO has said 2010 4G (LTE) rollout is perhaps a more likely scenario for an iPhone hook up with Apple.
Nevertheless, Apple has already released the iPhone 3.0 compatible iTunes 8.2, which means that whatever’s coming is coming quite soon. Sooner rather than later confirmation comes from Best Buy retail associates who’ve let it slip that their employer is running low on iPhones to sell.
So many delicious half details and unconfirmed hopes—I’m about to lose my effing mind…
What’s your take?
