AT&T: Pre-orders to ship 7 to 14 days from order date

By Ronald O Carlson

If you were hoping to avoid waiting in line to get a freshly minted Apple handset on launch day by pre-ordering from AT&T, your chance has past—Ma Bell is now telling those placing pre-orders they have to wait at least a week and maybe two to get an iPhone 3G S.

This news comes via the good offices of the Boy Genius Report, which has published a grainy, somewhat difficult to read photo of an AT&T order system screen.

Here’s the full text:

Due to extraordinary demand for iPhone 3G S, all customers placing preorders on Saturday, June 13, 2009 and later, should be informed that their order will arrive at the store 7 to 14 days from the order date

Only preorders placed Friday, June 12, 2009, or earlier, are expected to arrive in time for the 7:00 a.m. opening Friday, June 19, 2009. Customers will receive an e-amil notification when their new iPhone 3G S has arrived and is available for pick up.

Preordering is still a great option for customers to guarantee they receive their iPhone 3G S as quickly as possible.

‘As quickly as possible’? A week of wiggle room doesn’t sound like posthaste to me.

Then again, why monkey around with AT&T when our favorite fruit company is still advertising (Apple Store) Friday, June 19 delivery?
