TweetDeck for iPhone arrives

By Ronald O Carlson

One of the better Twitter clients for the Mac has arrived on the iPhone, and it brings with it multiple account support.

As some of you may remember, I’m a fan of Twitterific 2.0 for iPhone (review). However, real competition has arrived in the form of TweetDeck 1.0 (free, iTunes).

Where this client excels is the use and management of multiple accounts. The catch here is that this added functionality requires that you set up a TweetDeck account, which requires a (small) leap of faith that those concerned about privacy might not want to make.

Further, that account has another use—it knows the tweets you’ve read across multiple devices (i.e. Mac, iPhone, PC). It keeps you in sync—user configurable—regardless of which registered device you’re twittering on. That’s pretty neat and something the competition doesn’t do.

Other nifty features in TweetDeck include but not limited to shake to refresh, set up columns to view groups/personal dashboard, share and view photos, easy URL shortening, and the ability to follow and unfollow people.

In the two hours or so that I’ve been using this app, it hasn’t crashed or otherwise behaved badly.

For the Mac, too

Also, TweekDeck is available as desktop client, too, although this is an “application” created in Adobe Air. Again, for some people, the fact that this software is the city cousin of Adobe Flash is a deal breaker.

TweetDeck has some compelling features, especially if you’ve got multiple accounts and use twitter on multiple devices. Moreover, unlike the premium (ie more useful) versions of Twitterific and Twinkie, TweetDeck comes in one full-featured flavor and is free.

Have you tried TweetDeck? Are you a dedicated Twitterific user? Then sound off in the comments below…
