It’s easy to forget sometimes that the iPhone is also an iPod, but with the ever growing collection of music applications, you can get yourself an endless supply of music for “the best iPod yet” (as Steve Jobs like to say).
The iPod Touch and iPhone can give you as much free music as you can handle with the following 40 applications we’ve gathered up for you. We also included a few free ones that can help you figure out the lyrics are to your favorite songs, or even help you identify a song you hear on the radio. Why not turn your iPhone into the ultimate music machine?

iPhone International Music Applications
95.8 Capital Radio: A top radio station from London, England.
Classical Philippines Radio: Plays a selection of classic Philippines musical styles
iBZH: Five radio stations serving all of the Brittany territory and surrounding area featuring a mixture of music and news.
Life Radio: Life Radio is the number one radio station is Austria, and this application features multiple streams from the popular station including 1980’s, love songs and more.
Mx3.ch Mobile: An app featuring streaming music from Swiss musical acts and information on upcoming gigs around based on your iPhone’s GPS location.
RadyoD: A privately owned radio station in Turkey streaming music and news from the country 24/7.
RMC2: Radio Monte Carlo comes out of Italy and features portions of the programming in English and Italian.
Rock Antenne: Broadcasting out of Germany, Rock Antenne broadcats in English, German, Italian and Spanish.
SlowTurk: A Turkish station broadcasting nothing but love songs.
iPhone Lyrics Applications
Lyrical: Lyrical will automatically find the lyrics for the song you are listening to as soon as you launch it. The app will also let you search for lyrics for songs not in your library by entering the artist, song title or even just a few words from the song.
LyricMate: Powered by LyricWiki, LyricMate will show you lyrics for a song you are listening to, cache lyrics for offline reading and more.
TuneWiki: TuneWiki allows you to see animated subtitled lyrics to songs you are listening to in 40 different languages. You can also let users of social networks know what you’re listening to, see on a map what people near you are listening to, skin the app and more.
iPhone Music Identification Applications
ClickonRadio: Want to know what song just played on the radio? ClickonRadio can tell you what played in the last hour on over 2600 radio stations. The app will also direct you to more on the Web about the band, links to videos for them and more.
Shazam: Not sure of a song’s name that’s playing on the radio? Hold your iPhone up to the radio, TV or speakers, tap the “tag” button and Shazam will help you identify it. You can then share tags with friends, buy the song, learn more about the artist and a whole lot more.

A Celtic Sojourn: Built by WGBH public radio, A Celtic Sojourn plays music from the past and present around the Celtic world. Also features many live performances recorded by WGBH.
AOL Radio: AOL Radio features over 200 online radio streams in 25 different genres as well as access to 150 CBS network radio stations.
Concert Vault: A free streaming collection of concert performances from the 1960’s to today.
DMA Radio, Dance Mix America: Dance music from the latest club hits to classic dance anthems, DMA covers it all. Want to hear a special track? Call their toll free number to request it. And best of all, it is non-stop music with no commercials.
Gay Internet Radio Live (G.I.R.L.): All dance music, all the time, G.I.R.L. plays nothing but dance remixes popular at clubs and circuit parties. App features ability to email requests to the DJs, links to call them and scrolling information about the music playing. Features 64kb stream for 3G and 128kb stream for Wi-Fi.
HardRadio: From the people behind HardRadio.com, this app streams nothing but hard rock/heavy metal 24/7.
imeem Mobile: A mobile extension of the imeem social network, imeem Mobile allows you to listen to artist stations, stream up to 20,000 songs of your own that you have uploaded to the site, share songs with your friends, buy songs via iTunes and more.
Last.fm: Part social network and part music discovery site, Last.fm has made the effort to make the app as functional as the site. You get all of the social aspects, ability to and & remove tags from songs, recommend music to friends and more.
OurStage Radio: OurStage Radio is an app featuring new artists from minor labels. You can vote up the songs you like and this increases the odds of it being heard by other users of the app.
Pandora: Pandora is the darling of the music streaming scene, and being able to use it on your iPhone or iPod Touch makes it just that much better. While you don’t have to have an account to use the app, it makes it just that much better if you do. The application is fully integrated with the site so that you can access all of your current channels, create new ones, rate music and all of the other features you’ve grown to love.
Radio Paradise: Radio Paradise is an eclectic music station programmed by two actual human beings with no commercials or automated playlists. Music varies from classic rock to electronica and a whole lot more.
SHOUTcast Radio: SHOUTcast features over 25,000 stations programmed by users which covers just about every conceivable genre of music. Thanks to the accelerometer in the iPhone and iPod Touch you can just shake the device to change to another random station when you get bored with the one you’re listening to. You can also make a list of your favorite stations so you can visit them again and again.
Slacker Radio: The popular online radio station comes to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Slacker Radio boasts millions of songs, 100 pre-programmed stations that you can fine tune to your liking, ability to see lyrics and several other features.
Y! Music: Y! Music features a mixture of Yahoo’s 150 stations across 20 different genres as well as also offering up streaming audio from the CBS radio network stations such as 1010WINS, KROQ, WFAN and more.
Streaming Local Radio Stations
89.7 WTMD Radio For Music People: A station from Baltimore, Maryland that focuses on unsigned bands from around the region and underexposed national acts.
Hot 97 FM: Based in New York City, Hot 97 FM was the first station in the USA to play hip hop exclusively and it continues through to today on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Milwaukee’s 102.9 WHQG: Coming from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 102.9 is a mixture of rock and morning shows from America’s heartland.
Philadelphia’s 93.3 WMMR Rocks: A mix of classic and new rock played by Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s 93.3 WMMR.
Pulse 87.7: A dance music station from New York City that features 2 hours of commercial free music starting every weekday at 7 a.m. EST, and a four block starting Saturday nights at 10 p.m. EST.
The Coast 95.3/95.9 KOZT: Broadcasting adult rock from Mendocino County, California. The station is locally owned, operated and staffed so that there is no pre-programmed satellite shows.
iPhone Streaming Mixed Radio Stations Applications
FlyCast: FlyCast features over 1,500 digital music stations that cover just about every genre of music as well as talk radio favorites. Besides bringing you loads of music, the app brings you many unique features such as the ability to jump back to the beginning of talk show if you come in late, the ability to “stream ahead” which allows you to listen to music even if you’re offline, the ability to “dedicate” a song to a friend via Twitter and a whole lot more.
FStream: FStream allows you to enter the stream of just about any source and make your own radio station for it inside the application. Also features presets, but the real star is the ability to build your own station.
IHeart Radio: IHeartRadio brings you a mixture of the nation’s best radio stations such as Z100, KFAN, WGCI and more. You can use geolocation on your iPhone to only pull up stations local to the area you are in if you are on vacation or a business trip.
MDR Sputnik Web Radio: Sputnik is a young persons public station that features several music channels based on different genres.
Public Radio Tuner: The Public Radio Tuner app is made by the USA’s National Public Radio (NPR) and features hundreds of streams from its affiliate stations from around the country. The stations feature a mix of classical and specialty music programming as well as popular shows like Car Talk, All Things Considered, Prairie Home Companion and more.
Radiolicious: Radiolicious allows you to listen to numerous different radio stations, send song requests to DJs, enter contest and a whole lot more.
