App Store spammer Khalid Shaikh indicted by FBI
By Ronald O Carlson
The same lovely fellow who got himself banned from the iPhone App Store for creating more than 900 mostly useless applications, as well as over 100 complaints from competitors about stolen software code, is back in the news. This time around it’s the feds making the accusations and they’ve filed an indictment accusing Khalid Shaikh of using DOS attacks against a company he once headed.
PCWorld reports that Khalid Shaikh — the gentleman who got himself banned from the App Store — just can’t keep out of the spotlight. Whereas his only prior (non-criminal to date) offense is spamming the iPhone App Store with more than 900 mostly valueless apps over a short 250-day period, the former YouSendIt CEO now stands accused of using ApacheBench in order to perpetrate denial of service (DOS) against that company’s servers.
If found guilty, Shaikh could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 plus restitution.
For his part, Shaikh says he’s innocent and welcomes the chance to answer these charges in court. And, who knows, maybe he really is innocent.
Nevertheless, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t leave him alone in a room with one of my Macs and an open login…
What’s your take?
