AT&T whimpers text only reply to Verizon’s visual 3G ads

November 13, 2009

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Ma Bell sure looks desperate now. Their belated response to Verizon’s “there’s a map for that” advertising campaign is wimpy in the extreme as it delivers statistics in textual form only about how complete its 3G + EDGE, which can charitably be referred to as a 2.5G technology, networks are to fill in the gaps.

Yes, AT&T has sued Verizon over the misleading nature of its highly effective There’s a Map for That advertising campaign, but hasn’t responded in kind leaving the obvious impression that they’ve been caught flat footed.

A picture’s worth… [millions of switchers]

Yesterday’s text only AT&T Sets the Record Straight on Verizon Ads whimpers “incompetence.”

“To Our Customers,

“As the U.S. market leader in wireless data service, we typically don’t respond to competitors’ advertising. However, some recent ads from Verizon are so blatantly false and misleading, that we want to set the record straight about AT&T’s wireless data coverage.”

The company then goes on to textually list a bunch of statistics proving how great their network. And, while all of it might even be true, all of those numbers are poignantly inadequate — Verizon’s been beating them about the head and shoulders with visuals for weeks and they respond with boiler plate.

How’s that working for ya?

Perhaps we should take a glass half full view of Verizon’s marketing assault and AT&T’s incompetent to date response. Maybe, just maybe Verizon’s ad campaign will siphon away enough subscribers so that Ma Bell’s network will actually have enough capacity to deliver reliable calling and data services?

Hmm, now that’s something worth hoping for and looking forward to…

What’s your take?

And the comments were closed too! What a crock.

The ongoing 3 G “thing” is just one issue, but whats the point when one can’t make calls on their at&t phone? Their phone coverage isn’t that great either. Maybe it is the GSM technology that at&t uses?

My brother in law can’t use his at&t phone in certain areas but my Verizon phone which uses CDMA works great in even the remotest area and both are modern phones.
