Best iPhone Bible apps [free and paid]
In this holiday season, not everything has a price tag on it. Keep the word close and in your pocket on your iPod touch or zeitgeist defining Apple smartphone (next to the money you didn’t spend).
When I started this piece, my goal was only to find five good free Bible reading apps, but due diligence yielded a few more than that, including one in Chinese and another in Japanese. Two of the readers found are generic ebook readers, Kindle and eReader, that can load free versions of the Bible, including foreign language versions.
• Olive Tree BibleReader (free)
— Powerful, simple, searchable and you can add via other free Olive Tree titles and in-app purchases
— Olive Tree company offers a dizzying array of readers and study tools, as well as
• Mantis Bible Study (free)
— Search that delivers vividly color annotated text, extendable via other free Mantis titles and in-app purchases
— Mantis’ free and for pay products offer easily customizable and extensible Bible reading and study tools
• powerfruit Bible reader (free)
— Simple, concise, searchable presentation of the Bible with no add-ons or come ons
• Pocket Bible (free)
— Simple, concise, searchable, but with access to 39 other free bibles, reference books and devotionals
• Holy Sword (free)
— A free Chinese language reader from Agape International
— Get the Japanese version, Holy Sword Colloquial
Of course, the Kindle of iPhone (Free Bible for Your Kindle) will do the job, as well. Moreover, the independent’s favorite book reader app, eReader (free, iTunes), also offers a free Bible or two, not to mention a very large store full of free and pay-to-play titles.
As always, if I’ve missed the kewlest free Bible reading solution out there, don’t be shy about sharing your pick and a link in the comments below…
