Job posting implies 802.11n equipped next-gen iPhone
Who would be surprised if Apple were to announce an 802.11n enhanced smartphone next June? Thereupon, perhaps it’s time to tick this item off our collective and individual 4G iPhone wish lists and get back to more important things, like sauerkraut and football.
There’s a faint hint of 802.11n spiced mobile devices emanating from 1 Infinite Loop and the most likely source is this Apple jobs posting, which is seeking a “Wifi Software Engineer” with the following qualifications:
• Implementation of 802.11 a/b/g/n & related specifications
• 802.11i/802.1x Security protocols
• Good understanding of wireless RF technologies & co-existence issues of 802.11 PHYs with other Wireless interfaces like Bluetooth.
Yes, of course, the current iPod touch already has, latent and unactivated, single-channel 802.11n Wi-Fi (does this really qualify?), as well as FM transmission functionality inside courtesy of Broadcom’s BCM4329 chip. Maybe they’ll let us have after yet another $10 upgrade — yes, I am probably the only person on the planet that actually actually parted with a Hamilton to get it.
Whatever the case, the addition of 802.11n to Apple’s growing family of keyboardless mobile computers will indeed be welcome. Here’s hoping iPod touch owners get it rather sooner than later…
What’s your take?

You really think Apple would put one newb in charge of a significant new feature? And that said new hire would design, engineer, test and etc all the changes inside of six months?
Let me guess you’ve never done software/hardware integration for an ultra-fastidious company paranoid about its reputation. Let me guess, in fact, that you’re one of these “throw it against the wall and see if it sticks” types who has NO responsibility for results.
