Woz favors Google Nexus over iPhone?
In a widely held interpretation of a short interview with NBC, Steve Wozniak (the co-founder of Apple) is believed to have said that he really likes the Google Nexus One phone.
As off-the-wall as ever, Wozniak said in the interview that the still carries two iPhones, but that his current favorite device is “a non-Apple product” that came out the day before the interview on Jan. 6, leaving little doubt in anyone’s mind that he was talking about the Nexus. He was not overly about his reasons for liking the newest Android-powered device, according to an nbcbayarea.com story, but appears to be quite taken by it nonetheless, as he is with most cell phones, as is made clear by comments after the interview.
Wozniak co-founded Apple Computer with Steve Jobs in 1976, and as such can be considered one of the founding fathers of the personal computer industry. An airplane crash in 1981 left him with amnesia, among other problems, and shortened his career with the company he had founded. Wozniak designed most of the hardware and software that shipped as the Apple II and got the company really moving. Wozniac is a true technology buff, and has been known to take an interest in a wide variety of technological devices and products. Apparently, the Android-driven Google Nexus One is the latest of these favored devices.
The Android Google-phone, with it’s semi-open-source operating system, appeal to hobbyists, and marketing approach to high-end power users, seems like exactly the sort of device that The Woz would take a liking to. Although he is still technically an employee of Apple, Wozniac always has a number of outside interests going, and can be a bit of a loose cannon in Silicon Valley.
Wozniac is an equal-opportunity smartphone user. He says, “I always have the latest phones. It’s pointless to say one’s bad or one’s better than the other. I have two iPhones, sometimes I wear a Droid on my belt, and also a Nexus One. At any given point, I might have Blackberryies. My main phone is still an iPhone.” Wozniak is not only a very interesting guy, but a serious aficionado of cell phones, have owned at least a hundred. Absolutely our kind of guy…
