Carbonite for iPhone: Mobile access to your stuff

January 25, 2010

Still haven’t gotten the local + off-site back up religion? Here’s yet another reason to go with Carbonite, which is affordable and requires your attention just once to get it set up n’ running.

I’m kind of surprised I didn’t see this when it first came out at the end of last month — Carbonite for iPhone. Now, whereas I use a mix of MobileMe ($69) and optical disk backups that’s neither simple nor fully automatic, Carbonite costs $55 a year and serves it up in a hands free, all-you-can-eat fashion.

With Carbonite for the iPhone, you can browse your backups (exactly as they are on your Mac or PC), open and view files, and share your files remotely via email attachments. Yes, these features are also available via a browser on the web, but it’s just that much better to have a dedicated mobile app for your Apple handheld computer — a custom UI with big buttons makes all the difference!

That is, like Facebook or WordPress for iPhone, the Carbonite app just a lot easier and more elegant than trying to mess with the web interface and all of those fiddly little buttons and out-of-sight fields.

So, Carbonite for iPhone is yet another reason to end your backup affliction and turn it into an addiction, one that’s affordable, automagical and mobile.
