iPhone download cap doubled to 20MB
Optimism continues to creep into (and seep out of) Apple’s relationship with AT&T. Here’s another anecdote that perhaps indicates the worst is over for the nation’s number two wireless carrier and the mothership’s exclusive iPhone partner.
MacNN reports that Apple has lifted the iPhone EDGE and 3G file download cap from 10MB, doubling it to 20MB, though neither mothership nor AT&T has given a specific reason for this unparalleled act of generosity.
That said, AT&T recently lifted their 3G network ban covering content streamed to SlingPlayer Mobile ($30, iTunes). Nevertheless, even with the cap raised to 20MB, the great majority of TV, movie and even audio files (i.e. audiobooks, podcasts, etc.) are still effectively banned while roaming in EDGE or 3G-only data coverage areas.
Whatever the precise reasons and limitations, it’s good to see AT&T, which has taken a lot of grief for its numerous service and support issues, finally opening if only just a little…
What’s your take?
