Will iPad tether to iPhone? Jobs says, ‘No’

March 6, 2010

If you’re an iPhone owner and you’ve been thinking about getting an iPad, as well, here’s a question that’s surely been on your mind. Although there was little hope, let alone doubt that this functionality would be offered, now there’s a definitive answer on the subject.

Jezper at Swedish Mac Web site Slashat.se wrote to Steve Jobs with a question about the soon-to-be-released iPad:

I’m Jezper from Sweden, a long time Apple fan, currently about to replace the very last computer at home with a brand spanking new iMac i7. I’m also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question:

Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?

As is Steve Jobs habit, his answer short and direct:

No.

Sent from my iPhone

Of course, the folks who hack, crack and jailbreak Apple’s locked down devices will do everything they can to make a liar of Jobs. Officially, at least, there will be no iPhone to Wi-Fi only iPad tethering.

Hmmm, I wonder if Apple will allow 3G + Wi-Fi iPad tethering to other devices…

What’s your take?
