An iPhone for Verizon after all [perhaps not]
Here’s a rumor with more life than a flattened centipede. Once again the notion of a CDMA iPhone for sale via Verizon has twitched to life with production set to begin sometime and delivery to begin a while thereafter.
The Wall Street Journal, a publication leashed to the same owner as Glenn Beck, reports that Apple is planning to offer a CDMA iPhone via Verizon. It could also be used on Sprint Nextel’s network.
Thereupon, an AT&T spokesman, obviously quaking in his shoes, told the WSJ that, “There has been lots of incorrect speculation on CDMA iPhones for a long time. We haven’t seen one yet and only Apple knows when that might occur.”
Of course, given that AT&T already owns 43 percent of all smartphone owners and Verizon just 23 percent, the nation’s number one and falling with a bullet carrier might finally be in the mood to make a deal. Honestly, given that I live in a Verizon town, I’d love to see that happen.
Nevertheless, this corpse of a rumor has floated to surface so many times — rather like rumors of AT&T allowing iPhone tethering — it’s really hard to take it seriously anymore…
What’s your take?
