Apple announces iPhone OS 4.0 event on Thursday, April 8 [u]

April 5, 2010

Apple’s at its cryptic best as it sends out invitations, I’m still waiting for mine, for a media event on Thursday. Thereupon, it wouldn’t suprise me if the anticipated July release will get pushed out until later this year.

The mothership is keeping the iPhone OS heat one with the announcement of an iPhone OS 4 event this Thursday on the Apple campus in beautiful Cupertino, California. To be held at the Apple Town Hall, little else is know about the gathering.

Nevertheless, Apple is widely expected to announce full multitasking support is coming to the iPhone OS enabled by an Exposé like user interface, which will be a nice addition to the iPhone and iPod touch. For iPad users, however, multitasking will complete a large gap in the device’s feature set that will make it a true laptop killer.

[u] In related news, web metrics sleuths at Pinch Media have detected four versions of iPhone OS testing in the wild — 4.0, 4.0.1 and 4.1. Of course, it’s possible that one or more of these have been spoofed.

Have you been holding out for multitasking?
