Thursday to bring real multitasking, better games, mobile ads
An iPhone with multitasking would be an even more beautiful thing, especially for those trying to get work done. The introduction of this long-anticipated feature could be just around the corner.
AllThingsD is reporting that Apple’s Thursday iPhone event will see the company introduce multitasking in their mobile OS.
“Our sources indicate that a key feature of the forthcoming iPhone 4.0 software will be a full multi-tasking environment where third-party apps will also be able to be run simultaneously and/or in the background along with AAPL’s own apps,” says Kaufman Brothers analyst Shaw Wu. “While we believe this is an improvement for all iPhone and iPod touch users, we believe this will be particularly important for the iPad, due to its much faster processor and much larger screen where users will more likely want the capability to run multiple applications much like most do with their PCs and Macs.”
Wu adds that, while a welcome addition to iPhone OS devices in general, the big beneficiary of multitasking will be the iPad, which offers a greatly faster processor and larger, more responsive display. This feature will purportedly use an Exposé like interface to enable app switching.
Further, the analyst says that Apple will also make mobile gaming announcements and introduce the company’s mobile advertising API.

i wonder how this will affect the older first gen touch and iphones as they may not have sufficient processing power to work as well with 3rd party multitasking.
