Will the next iPhone have HD video capture?
The latest rumor about the upcoming next-generation iPhone is that the camera and operating software will be upgraded to allow the user to take high definition quality video with his or her handset.
These rumors were born after routines were found in the iPhone software development kit (SDK) that would allow an upgraded camera to take what is known as 720p high-def video. That would be a significant advance in iPhone camera technology. This story come out of MacRumors by way of PCWorld, who rightly notes that the existence of the software in the development kit does not necessarily mean that the hardware will be there to support it or that the software needs to be used even if the camera itself is capable. That’s why it is a rumor and not a fact.
Another next-generation iPhone rumor of note, of course, is the prediction that Verizon will be getting an iPhone to sell this summer. It has been widely predicted in the press during the last few months that Apple would be making a CDMA handset and that Verizon would be selling it. Now, more and more analysts and pundits are deciding that this will not be the case, as was noted yesterday in a column in this space. It seems that the latest batch of rumors have it that Apple has extended the AT&T exclusive for at least six months in return for the low price offered by AT&T for unlimited iPad broadband services.
Those, of course, are the problems with rumors, even though they are also the fun parts. It is not possible to confirms them absolutely, or they would not still be rumors. And since they cannot be confirmed, they can be easily changed or cancelled out altogether. As in the case of most Apple and iPhone rumors, we will all know the facts whenever it is that Apple chooses to tell them to us.
