Next rumor – Verizon iPhone for Christmas
Here we go again. Just as one rumor regarding an iPhone for Verizon dies down after being quashed by the facts, another rises from the ashes to start the cycle all over again. This time, it’s a Verizon iPhone by Christmas.
Just when you think that the iPhone is never going run on a cellular network other than AT&T, when the last rumor in a long line has been dis-proven by the truth, and you feel that you must abandon hope of a Verizon iPhone ever becoming a reality, along comes another rumor. The latest has Apple building and releasing a CDMA handset for Verizon to sell just before the Christmas holidays, according to a CNM News story. Is it any more accurate than any of the rumors that have come before it? Although only time will tell, it seems a little overly optimistic to begin to hold our collective breaths at this late date based on yet more conjecture from a website.
This time it was TheStreet that reported that Apple was setting up a complete production line for a CDMA iPhone, and where else could that be headed but directly to Verizon? This is especially odd since the most recent rumor-quasher was that the exclusive deal between Apple and AT&T on the iPhone had been signed for a five-year run which would not be over until 2012. That would make the Verizon iPhone by Christmas at least a year early. Still, the rumor says that the phone could go on sale as early as November.
Regardless, few people are likely to put a lot of stock in this rumor or any other like it. There have simply been too many of them, all of which have come to naught. Perhaps we should be happy just now with the next-generation iPhone that is expected in June, and wait for something to come directly from the mouth of Steve Jobs regarding an iPhone for Verizon.
