AT&T reps ‘confirm’ new iPhone for June 18 ship

June 5, 2010

Ma Bell’s retail people are again proving to be the weak link in the iPhone information chain as details about the launch leak out. Although we shouldn’t underestimate Steve Jobs and Apple’s ability to surprise, what’s left to know about the company’s next-generation smartphone?

Boy Genius Report claims to have been huddling with AT&T retail workers and come away from the encounter with a few details about the upcoming fourth generation iPhone. Specifically, the device is expected to begin shipping on Friday, June 18, which is a day previously favored by Apple both here and abroad.

Additionally, Ma Bell’s store reps say their sales quota has been increased by 25 to 30 percent. That doesn’t sound like a lot until you realize that the bump covers the entire month of June, not just going forward after the 18th.

And, the excitement builds…

And, what else is there left to know about the 4G iPhone? If the blogsphere is to be believed, it will be during Steve Jobs June 7 keynote, housed in a more iPad-like case, sport a pixel-doubled display and run iPhone OS 4.

It’s also believed that the 4G iPhone will also run some version of Apple’s well-regarded A4 processor.

Would these new features have been any more exciting without all the leaks? I doubt they’ve helped…

What’s your take?

My take is that you are pretty fast and loose with what Boy Genius Report stated. They said that based on some information they had received they “would like to think” that the next iPhone will be launched on June 18th. There was no “confirmation” as your headline blurts out. I guess that’s what makes BGR a respected and trusted site….
