The vPhone, for real, in January…

June 30, 2010

Rumors about the iPhone on Verizon have gained a focus and that’s January of next year, though no one that could be cornered and questioned has stepped forward to confirm or disavow the story. Given all of the pain AT&T’s experienced, if there is to be a vPhone, Verizon’s going to test the bejesus out of it, so perhaps one of those mobile web metrics companies will provide us with the verification we all crave.

Quoting “two people familiar” with the plan, Bloomberg is reporting, and not for the first time, an unconfirmed rumor that the iPhone will be coming to Verizon in January of next year.

“The fact is, Apple is going to dramatically increase the number of devices it sells in the U.S. when exclusivity at AT&T ends,” said Hodulik, who is based in New York and rates Verizon shares “neutral.” “It’s hard to ignore the quality issues that AT&T has faced.”

That said, America’s number one wireless network provider is expected to begin rolling out its fourth generation (4G) LTE network around that time, so perhaps this isn’t going to be just another CDMA smartphone. Then again, how much of their new network could Verizon have ready by then?

Nevertheless, it’s being guestimated that Verizon could sell 12-million iPhones next year.

Ready to be guinea pigs (again)?
