This app really succeeds more as a reference than as a way to purchase. That said, If I had to guess, Apple already had this app in the hands of retail workers, especially the business consultants, then saw an opportunity to add value by polishing it and getting it into the hands of consumers, as well as freelancers like me.

Yes, the Apple Store, AT&T retail, Best Buy and Wal-Mart will be open bright and early on June 24. However, it looks like the real action will be at The Shack, a.k.a. your daddy’s electronics store, where you’ll be able to trade in your older gear for discount on the Apple smartphone of your dreams, the iPhone 4.

Now you see ‘em and now you see somebody else’s app. Developers complain that for reasons still unexplained, their apps are being all but delisted while others say their ratings have been spontaneously adjusted to near irrelevance — imagine that.

A highly specific exception is discovered in the latest iPhone Software Developer Kit terms and conditions. No, developers can’t just use “interpreted code” where they see — the mothership must provide written permission ahead of time.

Whether or not you were aware that some smartphones are technically capable of videoconferencing, it’s highly unlikely you’ve actually used this functionality — think of it as one of those bullet point features in Windows that didn’t work well enough to use, like plug n’ play in the ’90s.

When Apple’s next-gen smartphone ships on Thursday, June 24, it will arrive with a greatly improved antenna. The device’s stainless steel body acts as the antenna, which holds the promise of holding calls much better, but there’s more to it than just that.

Apple doubled down on the cool stuff for today’s announcements with more pixels, a brighter display, a front facing camera, longer battery life, LED flash, HD video recording, iBooks (almost) everywhere, A4 processor, 5-megapixel camera and a freaking gyroscope. Plus all of the juice of iPhone OS 4 iOS 4 with multitasking, bunches of new APIs and, of course, iMovie Mobile.

This pending increase comes in addition to the previously announced 30-plus percent boost. However, Foxconn isn’t doing it out of the goodness of their hearts — it’s part of a nationwide minimum wage increase — though the company says they’ll match that and then some.
