UK retailer outs 5MP camera-equipped iPod touch [u]
The popular chain says they’ll be putting on a little dog n’ pony show that will feature, among other things, a new iPod touch with a camera very much like the one in the new iPhone 4. Why would the mothership favor some Brit storefront for a prerelease announcement? Well, actually, they wouldn’t.
Unbeatable is reporting a rather improbable rumor which posits that details about an unannounced Apple product, a next-gen iPod touch, will be delivered unto this world by John Lewis, a British department store. Yup, all previous practice is going right out the window — Apple’s never ever done anything like this in the past — and some guy will do the honors.
The features that are said to be added to the already popular iPod, are a front facing webcam for FaceTime video calls via Wi-Fi, a 5MP camera which will support HD video and the iPhone 4′s gyroscope and accelerometer.
Last year’s iPod touch was likewise expected to include a camera and there were even rumors that Apple would push out an updated model in the Spring. Well, my annual pre-Summer headshaving has come and gone, and no update.
That is, Apple didn’t do anything whatsoever out of character. In fact, Apple rarely does anything out of character.
So, whereas an iPod touch with A4 processor, Retina display and 5MP camera capable of gorgeous stills and HD video is perhaps a slam dunk, Britsh dentistry will be the envy of the world before Apple ever under any circumstances releases a single shred of information about a new (and unannounced) product through a British retailer.
[u] In related news, AppleInsider reports that some alleged new iPod touch parts available on a Chinese auction site indicate that an updated version of the device will include a forward facing camera.
What’s your take?
