iPhone owners love AT&T, iPhone. Android? Not so much…
Whether it’s the lack of compelling games or the increasing crush of spammy apps installed by carriers, people that have purchased Android-based devices aren’t particularly keen on buying another one. Naturally, just the opposite is true of the smartphones made by Apple.
CNN, quoting Yankee Group data, reports that 73 percent of iPhone users are very satisfied with AT&T service. Yes, really, about three in four US iPhone users are quite happy with Ma Bell.
“Consumers transfer the high gloss of their Apple iPhone experience to AT&T,” says Carl Howe, analyst, Yankee Group. “The iPhone creates a halo effect that rubs off.”
Further, the AT&T smartphone subscriber satisfaction is 68 percent, which isn’t bad though palpably lower than iPhone owner satisfaction score.
“There’s a gap between what people hear about us and what their experience is with us. We think that gap is beginning to close,” says Mark Siegel, an AT&T spokesman. “It doesn’t mean we’re perfect; we still have work to do. But that’s no surprise to us, because we have a great network.”
Keep ‘em coming back…
And, you know all of those freshly minted Android users? Yes, a huge number of people have purchased a dog’s breakfast of phones running a dozen or more variations of Google’s mobile OS, but they’re rather dissatisfied with their devices — only 20 percent say they’ll buy another.
That said, about the exact opposite proportion of iPhone users, 77 percent, say they’ll be back to buy another Apple-branded smartphone.
Obviously, a lot of marketing hubris aside, Droid doesn’t [satisfy]…
What’s your take?

I am very satisfied with my android phone and Verizon. I wont hate on iPhones or fans, I just don’t like att service, and feel apple has too many strings attached to their products (iPhone means you need iTunes and apple approved apps).

Did this survey of Android users come from ATT users? Because their selection of Android phones, at the moment, is just terrible. And iPhone users can’t really compare service due to the fact ATT has the phone exclusively in the USA. How do they know if it is “good” service? I just love biased journalism.

I convinced my friend to try out the samsung captivate after being fed up with how pathetic his iphone4 was. He loved the phones hardware even more than his iPhone and he liked the capability of the android OS. But in the end, he ended taking the phone back due to AT&T’s bloatware which he couldn’t remove. Went back to a 3gs so he could actually use it as a phone. Good job AT&T, you messed it up again. I swear they have a vendetta against android.

Weird, the latest actual surveys put both platforms at 4 out of 5 would buy again. Can you link to the survey that states that only 20% of Android users would buy again? I mean, an Iphone-centric blog slamming Android with a number that makes no sense, and without a source tends to bring into question your credibility.
And there are not a dozen variations of the OS, despite your drivel. In the market now is 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, and 2.2. OSes 1.6 Through 2.2 use the same kernel, meaning app compatibility is the same. The differences are the features available. A higher spec phone has more features.
This is no different than IOS3 on the original Iphone, with IOS4 on the 3G, 3GS, and 4, but with varying features enabled (IE, no multitasking on the 3G). In terms of OS fragmentation, the platforms are now equal. Yes, the hardware differences makes Android more fragmented, but you left out that nugget of truth to focus more on your unsourced FUD.

I’m afraid this article seems biased due to the statement that “Naturally, the opposite is true of smartphones made by apple”
Why naturally? Surely the research depends upon the demographic used? I’m afraid I have first hand experience of iphone users who’ve switched to both Blackberry and android devices and have decided not to go back but I don’t assume everyone’s jumping ship.
The iPhone is a beautiful piece of design and technology but I went to a Nexus one for the widgets and customization allowed by running the cynogen rom. I don’t expect every other users to find those to be particularly important to them, it’s horses for courses.
Are you surprised that so many iPhone users are happy with AT&T’s service when it’s the only option? Apparently we were all happy not to have multitasking too but look what we got.
I’m not sure if this was written as flamebait but it’s certainly flawed.
