Microsoft stages mock iPhone, Blackberry funeral wake
And, why not the Android, too? To put it gingerly, the hordes of mostly Asian manufacturers that make OEM and branded smartphones running Google’s popular mobile OS are the same companies that Redmond hopes will make handsets that run their mobile OS — kind of underscores the absurdity of the display.
Just when we were warming up to the idea that Microsoft has a sense of humor along comes this ham handed bit o’ theatre. Neowin reports that Microsoft, as part of their celebration of Windows Phone 7 being released to manufacturing (RTM), staged a mock funeral wake for the iPhone and Blackberry.

Arrr, them be the pipes o’ doom!
But, wait a gosh darned second! Where’s the dearly departed Android mock up and accompanying hearse? Far be it from Redmond to wish Windows Phone 7′s target audience — the legions of mostly Asian manufacturers that are currently making Google’s mobile OS device widgets — any ill will, because their product isn’t going to cannibalize anything — it’s all going to be additive.
Really, think of it, Google and Microsoft arm-in-arm slaying their iPhone and Blackberry foes! Although Apple probably has little to worry about, Blackberry might be feeling a little like Poland circa 1939…
What’s your take?

Hey, didn’t Microsoft have a similar mock funeral for the iPhone when they introduced the Kin earlier this year (remember the Kin?). I think they also held a mock funeral for the iPod when they introduced the Zune
