Remote 2.0: Apple finally updates popular app
When it launched on July 11, 2008, Apple’s Remote app for iPhone and iPod touch was warmly welcomed by the geekerati. However, it’s been nearly a year since the app was last updated and it hasn’t been entirely usable for some time. Now, Apple’s brought it up-to-date for iOS 4, iPad and the new Apple TV.
People were somewhat shocked when Apple let it be know that their iTunes Remote app for the iPhone and iPod touch had been created and maintained by one guy. Moreover, we were all non-plussed when it was said the app hadn’t been updated because that one guy was busy working on other things.
Well, Apple’s obviously freed him up at least a little, because Remote 2.0 is now available on the iTunes App Store:

Like running the desktop version of iTunes on your iPad, minus the Store.
- • Designed for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad
• Optimized for Retina displays and the large screen real estate of iPad
• Support for Shared Libraries in iTunes and new Apple TV
• Bug fixes and compatibility with iTunes 10 and new Apple TV

Yes, Remote 2.0 looks and works great on my iPad. Further, the combination of my Mac, massive music collection, an Airport Express base station and this App is simply brilliant.
That said, how awesome is it going to be controlling video and audio playback on the new Apple TV? I imagine people are discovering that brilliant bit of Apple coolness right about now…
What’s your take?
