Although they seem to have faded into the far, far background, the problems, either actual or perceived, with the iPhone 4 antenna had to have been at least a little costly for Apple. Do we know how costly?

The mothership has listed out the iOS devices that will be compatible with its new Game Center mobile gaming platform. However, whereas the 2008 second generation iPod touch made the cut and the 2008 iPhone 3G has been left behind.

For whatever reason, the mothership has pulled the reference to the widely reported Wednesday, September 8, replacing it with the words “coming soon.” Additionally, the Apple Store’s still listing the new iPod touch with seven-day availability.

It’s often been remarked that the iPod touch is everything good about the iPhone and none of the bad, especially AT&T. With the increasing ubiquity of open Wi-Fi, as well as useable voice over IP apps for handhelds, the iPod touch as phone is a real choice for a lot of folks.

Apple’s reassuringly expensive kit has always attracted a darker element, those wanting to apply the five-finger discount. It’s odd, perhaps, that years after the first thug had his career shortened by Back to My Mac, that there still are criminals that haven’t learned ya gotta turn the darned things off before the cops show up.
