A recent rumor that Apple wants to put some distance between itself and carriers in Europe gains solid footing as the company begins selling SIM-less iPhones in Germany. Granted, unsubsidized pricing is still big mouthful, but a future without carrier entanglements is coming into view.

In a week that featured a lot of news on security from apps that pierce it to Web sites that ignore it, Apple has acknowledged a flaw that makes it possible to gain easy access to iPhones, with a fix on the way.

It’s just a color, but Apple and its Asian manufacturing partners just can’t seem to get it together. Whatever the underlying problem is the mothership won’t be delivering it until the second quarter of next year and that perhaps means it won’t be an iPhone 4, but a five.

This app was disappointing on the iPad when it arrive, but one of the issues that helped create that let down has been rectified. Though still unfinished, this poly-platform app is still a must-have tool for anyone serious about mobile video.
