Second generation iPod touch dropped from AirPrint

October 5, 2010

Apple has adjusted AirPrint compatibility and the second generation iPod touch has fallen off the list. Though a bit disappointing, especially our family owns one, this news isn’t particularly surprising.

Back on Sept. 15, Apple AirPrint, saying that the second generation iPod touch would be among the idevices compatible with this element of the iOS 4.2, which is due next month. Now, in true Orwellian fashion, the second generation iPod touch has been redacted from the original press release.

iPhone in Canada reports that Apple has updated its iOS 4.2 press release to read “AirPrint will work with iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (third generation and later).”

That said, I will surprised if some enterprising hacker/jailbreaker doesn’t figure out how to make AirPrint work on the second generation iPod touch in much the same way that multitasking, tethering and other unsupported features have been made to work a range of idevices…

What’s your take?
