It lives! Verizon still a go for early 2011

October 7, 2010

Quite naturally, all of the spokesmen for the people who actually know have declined to comment. Yes, it’s another week and yet another spin of the Verizon iPhone story. Can you say, “Rumor fatigue”?

The Wall Street Journal is back again with a fresh spinning of the Verizon iPhone. Yes, it will be CDMA and is expected to enter product before year’s end.

Apple Inc. plans to begin mass producing a new iPhone by the end of 2010 that would allow Verizon Wireless to sell the smart phone early next year, people briefed by Apple said Wednesday.

Well, that’s an interesting twist — “people briefed by Apple said” — isn’t it? To date, I believe this is the first time a Verizon iPhone has been directly linked to the mothership.

Perhaps it all ties into Verizon’s stated goal of rolling 4G LTE service in 38 cities nationwide this year? That would certainly be a reason to buy a properly equipped iPhone.

Thereupon, is this latest rumor any more believable than previous stories? I’ve heard it all so many times that it’s really difficult to take any of it seriously…

What’s your take?
