Jobs: iPhone ‘handily beat’ Blackberry
Apple has released its September quarter results, crushing analyst revenue and profit estimates on the back of surging Mac, iPad and iPhone sales. Thereupon, Steve Jobs uncharacteristically took a pot shot at Research in Motion, saying the iPhone easily bested the Blackberry.
Apple’s announced fiscal fourth quarter results easily exceed analyst expectations — Mac sales were 27 percent year-over-year and iPad volume jumped by nearly a third over last quarter. However, the moonshot was delivered by the iPhone, which saw sales nearly double over the year-ago quarter.
“We are blown away to report over $20 billion in revenue and over $4 billion in after-tax earnings — both all-time records for Apple,” said Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple. “iPhone sales of 14.1 million were up 91 percent year-over-year, handily beating the 12.1 million phones RIM sold in their most recent quarter. We still have a few surprises left for the remainder of this calendar year.”

Ouch. Actually, two-million ouches.
But, what are these “surprises” he teases about? Could it be the long-fabled CDMA (i.e. Verizon) iPhone or just some spiffy (and unpublished) features buried deep inside iOS 4.2, which is scheduled to arrive next month?
Whatever he’s on about, Research in Motion has taken a major body blow and, whenever Apple chooses to loose the CDMA iPhone, it will surely mark the beginning of an even more pronounced slide to oblivion for the Blackberry…
What’s your take?
